Western Auto
Bernie and Betsye Kreul moved from Dallas, Texas with 5 small children in June, 1962. Their last child would be born after moving to Nashville. Bernie and Betsye purchased the Western Auto from the Garner family in 1962. The original building that housed the Western Auto is now Merle Norman. The store stayed in this location from 1962 until 1972. Needing a larger building and tire shop, Bernie purchased the old John Deere building and tire shop located at 207 and 209 North Main in 1972. The store is still in this location today. The store houses 6000 square feet of furniture, appliances, electronics, lawn and garden items, tires, and household items. The tire shop and warehouse add another 10,000 square feet. Price and Deb purchased and adjacent building at 205 North Main to serve as an additional warehouse from the Porterfield family in 2004. Western Auto employees 9 full-time employees and 3 part-time employees.
With all of the changes in retail over the past 46 years, the Kreuls have tried to keep that down-home feeling with their friendly and courteous service. Spotlight Archives |
